Dear Members and Followers,

The Colorado Office of Policy, Research and Regulatory Reform (COPRRR) released their recommendations for the Sunset Review of the Nurse Practice Act last month.  Although we are in agreement with the recommendations that were made (see attachment for details), the NCNPC Board of Directors were dissapointed the 1,000 hours of Provisional Prescriptive Authority was addressed. We support the elimination of this barrier for new NPs entering the workforce.

Representative Kyle Mullica (RN) will be introducing the Bill in the House when the session starts in January and Senator Joann Ginal will be introducing it in the Senate.  There will be an oppportunity to make revisions to the recommendations.  But time is short and we must move quickly!  Our next moves were designed with guidence from CNA.

There are several opportunities you to help:

1.  Join our Sunset Review Working Group.

Members of this Working Group will be asked to attend periodic phone meetings over the next month or two to discuss strategies on urging our Senators and Representatives to support the recommended changes and amendments.  CNA has advised us to develop "talking points" focusing on NPs track record of safe, affordable, high quality health care and reach out to our Legislators and Senators directly to ask for their support.  We especially need any volunteers who reside in the following districts:

  • Senate Districts 1, 13, and 23
  • House Districts 48, 50, 52, and 63

If you don't know your district, you can look it up using your address at

Our next meeting is tomorrow, Monday December 16th from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM.

Conference Line: 855-637-2079, Meeting ID 85870 19032, PIN 3161.

2.  Attend Stakeholder Meeting being held by Representative Kyle Mullica regarding the Sunset of the Colorado Nurse Practice Act 2019.
